Adventures in Big Sur
OK. You updated your Mac to Big Sur before thinking it through. My experience with the exercise.
I backed up my Macs (iMac, MacBook) using Time Machine.
The first day most people’s updates didn’t work.
The next day update worked; the update took about 2-3 hours.
When Big Sur started there was an immediate error that looked like this:
This is for Anyconnect that I use to VPN into University. It turns out to get rid of this error you need a new version of the program, which was not yet available through the University. Strangely enough, I was able to VPN in using the old version.
Then I tested programs that I use all the time.
Both Safari and Chrome had kept my login info!
All my directories in Finder were still there and functioning (Dropbox, iCloud external drives)
I could got onto sites that required Dual Authentication with my iPhone.
Starting the programs seemed slower than on Catalina.
EndNote in Word was grayed out when I tried to update some documents. By “saving as” the Word document then closing then opening the document resulted in Endnote working.
Citrix to get onto Epic and programs needed in clinic all worked so far.
Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) all worked so far.
Adobe programs (CC, Acrobat, Photoshop) all worked so far.
Zoom worked so far.
Wix (the website this is on) worked well in Chrome; I was able to edit properly in Chrome but not in Safari.
So far so good! I am awaiting the next version of AnyConnect …
